Meet the Bellwether Roaster

The Bellwether Roaster was designed to be the most sustainable coffee roaster in the world, both in air quality and energy use, to enable businesses that roast coffee to minimize their environmental impact.

Bellwether took the same principles and processes discovered on traditional coffee roasting equipment, then applied it to modern technology to create a new kind of roasting experience. Precipice Coffee is proud to provide Maine’s first zero emissions Bellwether roasted coffee. We are also excited to share that the roaster and our cottage shop is now solar powered. We are proud to provide enough energy production to fully power our business.

The Bellwether Roaster is the most consistent and controllable roaster on the market with the lowest carbon footprint.

It’s the first-and-only commercial coffee roaster to remove particulates and VOCs through clean technology for zero-emission roasting. By using electricity instead of natural gas to roast, it reduces the carbon footprint of coffee roasting by an average of 90%. It allows us to track how much carbon we have saved through producing on this machine.

Our Beans

All of our green beans are harvested using sustainable farming practices, traded fairly, and many are certified organic. We also work to build close relationships with the farms where we source our beans to ensure these standards are upheld.

The default for the coffees that we roast is the washed processing method. We will note on styles that are natural process or honey process.

Our offerings are always changing due to seasonality of the growing regions that produce coffee.
